Season tickets are still available for the 2024 Southern Jaguars football season, with packages starting at just $85.

This year’s Jags team is led by first-year Head Coach Terrence Graves. Graves is a 24-year coaching veteran in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) who previously served as Southern’s Interim Head Coach for the 50th Bayou Classic, as well as the team’s assistant head coach/special teams coordinator/linebackers coach.

Coach Graves said he is especially excited about the Alcorn State game on Oct. 19, which will also be Southern’s homecoming.

“That’s a big rivalry game. We’re looking  forward to that,” he said. “Everybody is coming back on campus. They’re looking forward to bringing Alcorn here to the Bluff.”

Other 2024 Southern Jags home games are against Savannah State (Sept. 7), Nicholls (Oct. 5), Bethune-Cookman (Nov. 9) and the University of Arkansas – Pine Bluff (Nov. 16).

“We’re looking forward to a great season. We’re looking to do some big things,” Coach Graves said. “Guys are really working hard. We had a great spring. We had a great recruiting class. We say it’s tough on the Bluff. It takes a special person to play here. When you come to Southern University, you are expected to win, and win on and off the field. Champions are who we are. Championships are what we do.”

The games are the main attraction at A.W. Mumford Stadium, but the entire campus experience on gameday is one to be remembered. Me’Gan Caesar, assistant manager in the athletics ticket office, said the food, tailgating and socializing lasts from the early morning all the way through the night.

“People are everywhere. Food is everywhere. I love the vibe and the people. We’re all family here,” Caesar said. “You’re engaged the whole time. The game starts and you’re on your feet the whole entire time because the band is not going to let you sit down. This is a place where you meet people. It’s just something you want to be a part of.”

And, if you’re tailgating outside the stadium before the game, you might even run into Coach Graves himself, who said he enjoys mingling with fans before heading into the stadium for final gameday preparations.

“My mother used to say there’s a time and a place for everything. I’m always going to be ready for the game, but I love going to engage with the fans too,” he said. “I don’t like to be too tight on gamedays. I like to keep a balance. I know I can talk to people and then get into head coach mode when the time is right. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.”
