With the start of football season, we always expect to see letters from sports fans. A passionate bunch, they write especially when their team is doing poorly. After LSU's loss to USC in Las Vegas last week, we heard from some of you venting your frustrations about the team.

It is something to witness the fervor of longtime fans when their team isn't living up to expectations. Players, coaches, other fans — no one is spared their ire. While I root for my favorite teams like everyone, I try to recognize the effort put forth on the field even when they are losing.

We treat letters about sports like all others. As long as writers keep it clean and don’t focus on personal attacks, everything is fair game. Monday morning quarterbacking is welcome, so let us know what you think about what your team needs to do better.

We have a strong college football tradition in Louisiana and, of course, we also have our beloved New Orleans Saints to watch on Sundays. So there’s always plenty to talk about. We also like to hear about what you think of our Sports coverage and what you’d like to see more of. With so many teams and angles to cover, we can't promise to get to them all, but our Sports team does a great job finding stories you want to read about most.

With the holiday week, we are still a little behind in clearing out our letters inbox so I can't give you the totals for the past two weeks, but I will update you next week. Letters about the presidential campaign continue to dominate. We are also seeing some letters about voting in general as get closer to Election Day.

We remain committed to publishing your on politics from all sides, and I'm sure after Tuesday's debate between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, we'll hear from a number of you on how they did. Often, the most memorable takeaways from debates are not apparent in the moment, So it will be interesting to see what our audience notices and if it changes anyone's view. Between presidential politics and football, I am sure our inbox will be overflowing this fall.
