A little rain won't stop the Mardi Gras parades, but Acadiana revelers may still want to grab their rainboots this weekend.
The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is predicting rain Saturday and Sunday ahead of a cold front that will bring cooler weather for Monday and Tuesday.
There was a small chance of rain during Friday night's Krewe of Allons parade in Lafayette, which was scheduled to start rolling at 6:30 p.m.
But the chances for rain increase over the weekend as a cold front moving across the region is expected to bring showers and thunderstorms, with the highest chances north of Interstate 10.
Rainfall amounts will range from .5 to 2 inches across the region over the weekend, according to the NWS.
There is a 30% to 60% chance of rain Saturday in Acadiana. Elsewhere, there is a 60% to 90% chance of rain. The highs will be between 70-76 degrees and the lows between 60-64 degrees.
Most of Acadiana is clear of excessive rainfall chances Saturday, according to the NWS.
Youngsville's parade is scheduled to start at 11 a.m., the Lafayette Children's parade is scheduled to roll at 12:30 p.m. and the Krewe of Bonaparte Parade in Lafayette is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.
But Sunday, there is potential for severe weather. The greatest risk is damaging wind gusts and frequent lightning. But there also is a chance for hail, tornadoes and flash flooding.
South Louisiana, south of I-10 is at a marginal risk for severe weather Sunday. Central Louisiana, north of I-10, is at a slight risk of severe weather.
There is a 50% to 90% chance of rain Sunday. The highs are expected to be between 70-76 degrees and the lows are expected to be between 56-63 degrees.
There are no parades in Lafayette on Sunday but there are parades and courirs scheduled in Church Point, Iberia Parish and Eunice.
The rain is expected to move through the area completely by Sunday night, leaving Monday and Tuesday free of precipitation, according to NWS.
After the rain clears, the temperatures are expected to drop. Monday's highs are expected to be between 55-60 degrees and the lows are expected to be 42-52 degrees. It will likely be cloudy, according to NWS.
Queen Evangeline's parade in Lafayette starts rolling at 6 p.m. Monday.
Mardi Gras is expected to be similar in temperatures but sunny. The highs are predicted to be between 59-64 degrees and the lows between 34-38 degrees.
