The Emmy Awards telecast is called TV's biggest night.

It's gotten even larger over the years, from honoring only broadcast channels, to broadcast and cable outlets, and now encompassing both of those plus all those streaming services on which we love to binge watch.

Father and son Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will host the awards show Sunday.

The sea of Emmy categories and nominees has sent the ceremonies flowing over two weekends; Creative Art Emmys were handed out last weekend.

During those ceremonies, the New Orleans-shot 2023 Hulu comedy "Quiz Lady" was honored as outstanding TV movie. Also, "Dick Van Dyke: 98 years of Magic" captured the Emmy for best prerecorded variety special.

The Louisiana connection there? Nonagenarian star Van Dyke got his television start at WDSU-TV in New Orleans, first as a single comedian and later as emcee of a comedy show.

Louisiana has another native son to root for — Metairie's Mark Duplass — during the three-hour broadcast that starts at 7 p.m. Sunday on ABC.

Metairie native Mark Duplass plays Charles 'Chip' Black in the Apple TV+ series 'The Morning Show.'

Duplass, one half of the well-known Louisiana filmmaking team the Duplass brothers (with brother Jay), is up for best supporting actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Chip Black in Apple TV+'s "The Morning Show." He was nominated for the same role in 2020.

"The Morning Show" follows the personal dramas and daily challenges of working in morning television in New York.

Duplass' character started out as the executive producer at UBA's "The Morning Show," who was fired at the end of Season 1. He's back in Season 2 in a lesser job as personal producer for Jennifer Aniston's Alex Levy, morning anchor, who now has her own show. In Season 3, Chip dips into the company dating pool with Alex's assistant, Isabella. Season 4 is expected to roll out in 2025.

Duplass' "The Morning Show" castmate Reese Witherspoon was also born in New Orleans, but didn't grow up there. Due to her father's military career, the family moved often, and she spent the bulk of her first four years in Wiesbaden, Hesse, Germany.

In "The Morning Show," Witherspoon plays Bradley Jackson, Alex's co-anchor. Both Witherspoon and Aniston are nominated for best actress in a drama series.

If Duplass, 47, wins on Sunday, it won't be his first Emmy statuette. He and his brother took one home in 2018 for outstanding documentary or nonfiction series as executive producers for Netflix project, "Wild Wild Country."

Duplass is also known for HBO series "Togetherness" and "Room 104," and films including "Bombshell," "Paddleton" and "The Puffy Chair."
