The Krewe of Triton knows how to throw a party. If the crowd needed any help getting into the Mardi Gras spirit, this ball (which includes an actual parade) accomplished that in a big way.

Triton held its annual event Feb. 10 at the Cajundome in Lafayette. It was one of the biggest and best shows in town. Following the Triton tradition, the krewe put on a real parade with actual floats and riders who threw beads and favors to huge crowds while rolling inside the dome.

The Acadiana High School marching band followed between floats in the parade, making the event more exciting. This year’s theme, Triton Goes on Safari, fit perfectly for the wild and wonderful show that followed.

King Triton XLIV Michael Istre and his lovely Queen Triton XLIV Nona Istre reigned over the festivities in dazzling royal robes of orange and gold, representing a beautiful safari sunset. Captain Randy Carroll led the expedition dressed in the traditional khaki safari outfit, pith helmet and all.

We want to send a special thank you to the krewe for inviting us. We also owe a thank you to Triton board member Tristan Barras who made sure we knew about the ball and were where we needed to be. Happy Mardi Gras Triton! What a year!
