As a mother of two lovely young ladies, I cannot help but allow my mind to ponder the possibilities of the future. I wonder who they might bring into their lives as a spouse or significant other. It’s all so exciting, or it can be. Like many mothers, I dearly hope my girls find “the right one.”
However, with all the elections in our midst, my mind started to go down the rabbit hole. What if Donald Trump were single and younger and one of my daughters started to date him? Perhaps the first introductions about Trump would include that he is a well-known politician. OK, that sounds good. Trump has also served as the president of the United States. Well, that is very impressive.
But after further exploration, I learn that this former president has been convicted of 34 felonies and could not accept the reality that he lost his second election, which led to an insurrection at our nation's capital. I also learn that Trump has been found liable for sexual abuse and has been convicted of sexual assault. At this point, I am sick to my stomach.
Like many mothers, I would be deeply concerned. I can only imagine I would suddenly be coming up with new ideas. I would tell her, “You know when you were little, you used to love elephants. Wouldn’t you like to go to the elephant rescue park in Chiang Mai? My treat!” If my daughter passed on that idea, I’d have to keep trying, “I hear studying in the Philippines is quite affordable. I can definitely afford to send you there to study for three to five years. What do you say?”
