A major vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and truck at the intersection of University Avenue and Simcoe Street Thursday morning has left one person dead.

The driver of the motorcycle, Karson Estilette, 18, died Friday as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, according to the Laffayette Police Department. Estilette was initially transported to a hospital and was listed in critical condition. 

Lafayette Police Traffic Investigators found that the truck was traveling east in the inside lane at the 1700 block of West University Avenue while the motorcycle was traveling west in the outside lane.

The on scene observation revealed the crash occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. when the truck attempted to turn left onto West Simcoe Street, according to LPD.

The truck driver's voluntary breathe sample yielded found no trace of alcohol. The truck driver was cited for failure to yield when making a left turn.
