LSU, the LSU Lab School and its Childcare Center will be closed on Wednesday  in anticipation of possible severe weather from Tropical Storm Harvey, a spokesman said late Tuesday.

State offices will be closed Wednesday in 28 parishes. Also, most Baton Rouge area schools will be closed (see list below).

State offices

State offices won't be open in Acadia, Allen, Ascension, Assumption, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia, Iberville, Jefferson Davis, Lafayette, Lafourche, Livingston, Natchitoches, Pointe Coupee, SAbine, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, Terrebonne, Vermilion, Vernon, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana parishes.

State offices are still scheduled to be open in East Baton Rouge and Orleans parishes, at this time, and officials continue to monitor conditions in case more parishes needed to be added to the list of closures. State employees can call (800) 360-9660 or (225) 342-0498 for updates.

Schools

East Baton Rouge, Baker, Central, Zachary, Ascension, Livingston, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, Assumption, Pointe Coupee, East Feliciana, West Feliciana and St. James Parish public schools will be closed Wednesday, school officials have announced.

Also, Catholic High and St. Joseph's Academy announced it will be closed. 

Catholic schools in the Diocese of Baton Rouge generally decide to remain open or closed based on what local public parish schools do, according to the diocese's website, which lists these closings:

  • Catholic Elementary and Catholic High of Pointe Coupee

Also, The East Baton Rouge Council on Aging announced today that due to the severe weather threat of Tropical Storm Harvey, all senior center locations of the Council on Aging will be closed on Wednesday

Bands of sometimes-heavy rain from Tropical Storm Harvey have prompted a flash flood watch for all of southeast Louisiana.

Harvey has caused catastrophic flooding in southeast Texas.
