LSU linebacker Harold Perkins Jr. (7) pressures UCLA wide receiver Carter Shaw (14) in the first half against the Bruins, Saturday, September 21, 2024, on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge, La.

Star LSU linebacker Harold Perkins left the Tigers' win over UCLA in the fourth quarter Saturday after applying a heavy hit on a receiver streaking across the middle of the field.

Perkins was ruled out with a knee injury, according to ABC's broadcast crew. He slowly walked into the locker room on his own power after being examined in LSU's medical tent.

"We'll do all the diagnostic testing tonight and tomorrow," coach Brian Kelly said. "We'll have a better answer for you when we do our presser on Monday."

Last week, in its win over South Carolina, LSU moved Perkins to strongside linebacker and began experimenting with a 4-3 defensive front. It carried that same configuration into its game against UCLA on Saturday, a game in which the Tigers struggled to stop the Bruins' offense in the first half but shut it down in the second.

After Perkins left the game, safety Jardin Gilbert stopped a UCLA drive with an interception, giving LSU’s offense a chance to build on its 31-17 lead.

"We can still stay in our buffalo package," Kelly said. "We can go back into our dime package, drop Major (Burns) down. So, we've got a lot of options there. We hope he's OK. We hope he's back for us. But we'll be able to move into other packages that resemble what we're doing."
