A student at Live Oak Junior High in Watson was taken into custody Wednesday morning after bringing a gun to school, the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office said.

Another student who learned about the weapon told administrators, who contacted the school's resource officer, a Sheriff's Office deputy.

Deputies secured the gun shortly after 8 a.m. and removed the student from the school, the Sheriff's Office said. The student remains in custody.

The student did not threaten any other students or employees on the campus, the Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The school campus was on lockdown during the incident, but students are now proceeding with their regular schedules, the agency said at about 10 a.m.

The Livingston Parish School District said in the news release that it will determine further action once the Sheriff's Office investigation is complete.
